4D is a forward-thinking private equity firm focussing on special situations. We specialise in unlocking the full potential of distressed and underperforming companies.
Our team of experts is deployed into every company we invest in to drive value alongside management teams from the first day of our involvement.
Simply put – we will financially and operationally improve every company we invest in, building value for all stakeholders. If we do not believe we can do this, we will not invest.
We invest in UK-headquartered companies in any sector of no less than £20m of revenue, capable of achieving significant scale. We buy from owner-managers, large corporates and other investors.
Our target initial investment is £1-5m for an equity majority. Initial investments of up to £10m in certain circumstances.
In addition, we seek to make value-accretive bolt-on acquisitions for our companies, and further capital can be made available to help achieve this.
We have chosen not to raise a fund in the model of traditional private equity. Instead, 4D is backed by a handful of Ultra High Net Worth investors, all of whom have experience in special situations investing – this gives us maximum flexibility in choosing our investments.
To build value, and in contrast with many other special situations investors, we directly employ financial and operational experts to deploy into the companies we invest in.
Our team has experience in every facet of business: sales & marketing, procurement & supply chain, manufacturing & operations, finance, IT and HR, and our investee companies can draw on this experience as required.
We apply a growth equity mindset to special situations, and where possible we prioritise long-term investment over short-term returns.
Because of our structure, we do not charge arrangement, monitoring or other fees associated with traditional private equity General Partners.
Instead, we charge fees for our experts’ time proportionate to the value they add – paid once the investee company has sufficient cashflow.
We deliver what we say we will deliver, and we pride ourselves on working hard, being easy to deal with and treating stakeholders fairly. If we cannot financially and/or operationally improve a company, we will not invest.
